About Us
profileI started fishing when I was 5 years old and have done it with a passion all my life. I never fly fished till 1998. That is when I saw a fellow fishing over in Tremont TN, by Cades Cove. I saw a fellow fly fishing there and was mesmerized by it all....I had to try my hand at fly fishing. So with no knowledge of it what so ever I bought a cheap fly rod and reel and proceeded to learn all I could. I went to a local outfitter and the fellow there sold me a Orvis Book on how to fly fish. I read it from cover to cover & when I was done with that I decided I needed a place to fish. So the first place I started was on the Internet looking for places to fish in NC. Finding nothing that really helped locating these streams on the Internet was a big disappointment ( I was ignorant then and didn't realize they made this book
Delorme Gazetteer
). One thing was for sure though.....I was intrigued how web sites were built. So being a DIY type person I set out to learn how to build web sites.

The initial concept in building this web site back in 1998 was to provide fly fisherman a website to locate streams in NC. It has grown beyond that and become a good place for all things dealing with fly fishing. One of the first things I learned was if people can't find you on a search engine after spending all that time to build a web site, it doesn't matter how good it looks. So I registered the domain name flyfishingnc.com and started to learn all I could about SEO (Search Engine Optimization). I slowly gain status for the search term Fly Fishing NC and was starting to get ranked on Google and Yahoo. After several years and a lot or reading and some trial and error I gained a strong status for anything that had to do with Fishing in North Carolina. The site now is one of the top fly fishing sites on the Internet and has gone to the front page on Google.I have enjoyed being able to learn 2 great hobbies that overlap each other and help people who were like me when I started fly fishing. I have met lots of people in the fly fishing realm because of this website, and that has been lots of fun.
